Action: Save Medicaid for Our Kids!

Health care is peace of mind for families. Medicaid is our nation’s way to make sure that as many people as possible have health care. In California we call it Medi-Cal. Nearly half of California’s children, 3 out of 4 of whom are children of color, rely on Medi-Cal. It’s the foundation of children’s health equity in our state.

Here’s what parents whose children have Medi-Cal have to say:

“[Kids get sick so easily.] If you don’t have health care, you can’t just take them in. …And [if] it’s something serious and you have nowhere to take your kids or no coverage, you get stuck with big bills. So I feel like health care is a must for everybody.”

“It’s very, very important. Health care is very expensive nowadays. When my wife didn’t have health insurance, if I had to take her to the ER, I would end up paying around $10,000 for a single night. But for my children, thank goodness, I haven’t had to pay anything with our Medi-Cal. My children have gotten hurt, I have taken my daughter to therapy, and I haven’t had to pay a thing.”

  • 5 million of California’s kids rely on Medicaid; 3/4 are children of color
  • More than 40% of all births in California are covered by Medicaid
  • 13.5 million Californians rely on Medicaid; that’s one of every three Californians

Medicaid is under attack by President Trump, Elon Musk and Republican lawmakers as they try to make huge cuts to essential services. Our goal is to flood Congress, both the House and the Senate, with messages. It’s especially important to reach out to Republican members of Congress, if you are represented by a Republican.

Congress is preparing to vote next week on a proposal that would cut billions of dollars from Medi-Cal, threatening the foundation of health care for nearly half of the children in our state.

“I don’t want them to suffer. When they hurt, you hurt, because they’re yours.” – California parent
