PARTNERSHIPS & COMMUNITY
By partnering with schools, health care centers, and other community sites, we help ensure children and families in underserved communities understand their health coverage and are connected to a health home. Our work equips families with the information and tools they need to manage their care and make smart health decisions for their children.
The Importance of Health Care
All children should be able to get the care they need, when they need it, where they need it. Getting regular health care helps children stay healthy and succeed in school. Families need doctors, dentists, and other health providers whom they can trust and build a relationship with as their child grows.
Children from low-income communities face many obstacles that prevent them from receiving high-quality care. Low-income families often face financial, transportation, and language barriers to getting services and seeing providers. Health insurance policies are often complex and overwhelming, especially for those that are newly insured, making it challenging for families to make informed decisions about their health and healthcare. Despite being enrolled, many children still can’t get timely care, often leading to preventable health problems and additional unnecessary costs for treatment. Many families with insurance still face cost barriers, including co-payments and deductibles, that prevent them from getting the health care they need to keep their families healthy.
How We Help
Through partnerships with communities, we are connecting families to the tools and resources they need to raise healthy children. Once children are enrolled in health coverage, we help to ensure they are receiving quality care and there are enough local providers to meet their health care needs.
We advocate policies and programs that increase the effectiveness and reach of health services. By collaborating with local and statewide stakeholders and policymakers, we identify and promote effective, innovative, and sustainable solutions to bring quality coverage and care to children.
