Our Children Are Watching
The values behind our work at The Children’s Partnership are rooted in the unequivocal belief that a child is a child. The anti-Black, anti-Indigenous, and racist comments by Los Angeles public servants were alarming to hear and devastating to process, especially when we reflect on their impact on children of color in Los Angeles and California. In particular, the targeted attacks on a young Black boy will have pernicious and long-term effects on the social-emotional well-being of not just this particular child, but all children and youth who will hear the audio of their discussion.
Children require the adults in their lives to do better. We all require those in office and making policy decisions to do better. Elected officials are called on to lead, protect, and contribute to a society that fosters an environment where all children feel validated, seen, and valued. We stand in solidarity with communities of all backgrounds in the call for resignations, systemic reforms, and a united commitment to healing from this breach of trust.
We reiterate our commitment to build power in partnership with the children and families most impacted by systemic racism and oppression so that all children, regardless of their race, ethnicity, gender, immigration status, ability, or sexual orientation can be healthy and thrive.
